Introduction

The Brewhouse Malta is home to Malta’s longest-standing brewery and one of the island’s most iconic heritage buildings. The Farsons Brewery Experience is housed within The Brewhouse Malta property. Our story is not tied to a single moment or family—it’s a tale of entrepreneurship, innovation, and resilience, shaped by three distinct families over centuries: the Simonds, the Farrugias, and the Sciclunas.

The Simonds Family: William Simonds began brewing in 1774 in the UK. By 1785, the family was supplying the British Army, and by 1875, H. & G. Simonds of Reading Ltd had established a presence in Malta.

The Farrugia Family: Originating from a merchant shipping background, the Farrugias expanded their business to flour milling and pasta making by 1892, setting up operations in Hamrun—eventually the site of the first brewery.

The Scicluna Family: In 1830, the Sciclunas established Malta’s first private bank, Scicluna’s Bank. Giuseppe Scicluna introduced cheques to Malta, earning the nickname “Cisk,” a name that lives on in our flagship brand, launched in 1929.

Today, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc stands as Malta’s leading independent brewer and beverage company—a testament to nearly a century of perseverance, innovation, and commitment to quality. The Farsons Brewery Experience brings this vibrant history to life in an engaging, accessible, and inclusive way for all our visitors.
